Welcome to our Covid-19 update page. Please check back from time to time as this information is 1) fluid and 2) some of it is simply my guess. Also, feel free to write me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have. I am on the Board of Directors of the Yap Visitors Bureau as well as the Special Ambassador to the Governor of Yap for Tourism and Airline Affairs so I am about as connected as any non-Government leader can be.
A word from Bill Acker
“I want to start off by saying how much we miss you and look forward to having you back with us. The mantas have been waiting patiently, our staff have been joining me in looking for new dive sites. Management has been joining me in planning for several noticeable changes to our facilities, services and offerings. Our aim is to improve on what already is an award-winning resort. Our mission is to be the best in the world at what we do, and we look forward to showing you the “new” Manta Ray Bay Resort and Yap Divers. All that is missing is you.”
Check out The Manta Blog for previous updates.
Out of an abundance of caution and to preserve the unique and rich culture of Yap and the rest of the Federated States of Micronesia a very strict travel ban was imposed by the President of the FSM in late February of 2020. That ban, which prohibits anyone from entering the country, is still in effect. When it will open is not a topic under discussion now as the priorities are to get at least 70% of the citizens vaccinated and then repatriate those citizens who have been stranded outside the country since the ban was imposed. Once citizens have successfully be repatriated, then the “When” of us opening might become clearer.
At this time, it is simply too early to know what the flight schedules will look like. United Airlines will surely have at least one flight per week from Guam to Yap and back to Guam. We are obviously hoping they will return to their old schedule which had two flights a week.
There is some very good news regarding airlines as PMA, our local airline serving Yap’s Outer Islands for over 40 years, will be receiving two new King Air pressurized, turbo prop aircraft capable of carrying 9 divers with all their gear between Yap, Palau, Manila and Guam. They will fly between Yap and Palau on a, still to be determined, regular schedule which will allow divers and non-divers alike to enter Yap via Palau or to combine Yap and Palau easily.
The ownership, management and staff of the Manta Ray Bay Resort and Yap Divers are working as hard as possible to make several noticeable changes to our facilities and our operations all in the goal of making the award-winning resort even better in all regards upon opening. Please continue to check back as details emerge.
The Yap Visitors Bureau will be planning an event for the grand reopening of the island as will we here at the Manta Ray Bay Resort be planning our own celebration with live music, special pricing offers, special hotel/dive packages and other fun events. Once again, please continue to check back as details emerge.
