I was touring a group of Hong Kong wholesalers and travel agents around the hotel this week.  They were over here for a week of investigation for the travel industry in Hong Kong and South East Asia.  They had spent the morning with us on a Kayak Tour with our two excellent and very knowledgeable guides Theo and Richard. (These are the two smiling faces that great you when you step off the plane in the middle of the night).  After that they were treated to a special lunch on the Mnuw, which was based around local food, to which I believe was very satisfying to their pallets.  As their leader quoted it was nice to see a resort go out of their way to make them something special and meaningful to them considering they are exploring Yap to sell to their customers back home.

Following lunch was the tour of the hotel and they were especially keen to see the Taro Leaf Spa, so I thought I’d take them there first.  I have to say, I have never seen a group of people so interested and absorbed with the spa.  They were asking every type of question imaginable and were taking picture after picture.  They were amazed that Yap has its own style of massage and how it works with local plants and herbs to bring about the beneficial results.  Watching them take their pictures and asking their questions got me to thinking that the Taro Leaf Spa is actually the only dedicated Spa not only on Yap but in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The spa is the latest addition to the hotel and it was felt that as one of the leading dive resorts in the world we needed something extra to offer our guests to further enhance their experience of Yap.  In fact many of the patrons of the spa are from the other hotels on the island.  The spa is exudes tranquility and has a welcoming reception and waiting area, which is filled with exotic fragrances. You will be given your own Taro Leaf robe and shorts to change into in our comfortable change area. Each guest will have their own private locker to keep valuables secure. The head therapist of the spa is Patricia Acker, the wife of Bill, who is happy to share her wealth of experience to make sure our guests have their best ever massage.  To those of you that have been lucky enough to visit the Taro Leaf Spa, you will know what I’m talking about.  To those of you that are making your way to Manta Ray Bay don’t let this opportunity pass you by; you will be glad you didn’t.
