Going Green-er
Phase one of our solar power project is now complete and producing clean energy for the resort.
56 panels are now on-line and are capable of producing 13 kilowatts of power an hour.
There will be two more phases to the project and when finished, we will have something on the order of 224 panels capable of producing a little over 52kw/hour during periods of full sunlight.
This solar project is just the latest in a long line of projects aimed at greening the Manta Ray Bay Resort.
We have had solar hot water since the day the hotel opened on March 1, 1990.
We later switched all of Yap Divers’ outboard motors from 2 stroke to 4 stroke engines thus saving fuel and no longer burning oil.
Next, we changed all the light bulbs in the resort to high efficiency mini fluorescent bulbs years before they were even available on the island. We removed the 3rd sheets from each of the beds thus conserving water, soap and power for the laundry and we’ve connected our room air-conditioners to a panel at the front desk so that the staff can shut them down in unoccupied rooms.
All of the above, combined with our on-going hydroponics garden reinforce our goal of being as environmentally friendly and responsible as possible.
