Dr. Erich Ritter’s Sharkschool finally comes to Yap and Manta Ray Bay!
From May, 22-29, 2013, Dr. Erich Ritter brings his renowned workshop programme Sharkschool to Manta Ray Bay Resort & Yap Divers.
Being one of the very few field researchers and expert for shark behavior, the Swiss-born scientist will share his knowledge and first-hand experience when it comes to human-shark-interaction.
Apart from thrilling close encounters with several shark species, one main focus will be the body language of sharks and Ritter’s very own concept “ADORE-SANE”, which serves as a guideline for shark encounters and compiles different factors that enable us divers to have an influence the interaction with shark. The concept also serves better photos and films because you will be able to “read” the animals’ behavior early on.
Framed by both interesting and entertaining lectures in our conference room will be our main spot of interest – Yap’s Vertigo Reef with its resident population of about 20 Grey Reef Sharks and Blacktip Reef Sharks. Excellent visibility, mild currents and shallow water (surface to 45ft) make fora long bottom time and provide safe conditions even for divers with limited experience. The island’s best Manta spot “Stammtisch” is only a 10 minute boat ride away and will be dived as well.
If wished for, we can set short expeditions designed to look for hammerheads, silvertips as well as silky sharks and other pelagic species.
The 18 ft screen aboard our restaurant schooner Mnuw will serve for evening presentations under open skies, in a cozy and intimate setting along with a fresh treat from our own micro-brewery to top off an exciting day.
Attention: the minimum number of participants for this customized trip is 15!
