Yap and Manta Ray Bay Resort Featured in Islands.com for Pioneering Manta Ray Conservation

Yap, Micronesia — July 28, 2025 — Islands.com recently published a feature spotlighting Yap as “a remote snorkeling and diving island paradise” and home to the world’s first manta ray sanctuary. The article, published July 25 and titled “The World’s First Manta Ray Sanctuary Is A Remote Snorkeling And Diving Island Paradise In Micronesia,” includes a mention of Manta Ray Bay Resort and its in-house dive operation, Yap Divers, as the go-to base for manta ray encounters in the region.

The manta ray sanctuary was established in 2008 and put into motion by conservationist Bill Acker, who founded Yap’s first dive operation, Yap Divers, in 1986. He later opened Manta Ray Bay Resort in 1990, a purpose-built, eco-friendly dive resort located in the capital of Colonia. Yap Divers today is both an SSI Platinum Dive Center and a PADI Five-Star facility, offering diving and snorkeling excursions to the island’s renowned cleaning stations, where manta rays gather in shallow reef channels.

The Islands.com article notes that manta rays in Yap can reach wingspans of up to 15 feet and are frequently seen year-round. Visitors can also encounter octopuses, reef sharks, and other vibrant marine life in Yap’s healthy reef ecosystems.

For anyone seeking close, respectful interaction with these spectacular animals, a trip with Yap Divers is highlighted as a must.
